Background

The Child Development Fund (CDF) was established with an injection of $300 million by the Government in 2008. It developed a positive learning and working attitude for grassroots children and youths in the long run as well as significantly improving their social skills, problem-solving abilities, resource management and future planning.


Objective

The Fund aims to provide children with more personal development opportunities. Through establishing

and implementing personal development plans, children are encouraged to plan their future, cultivate

positive outlook on life and develop habit of building assets.

 


Service Areas/ Scopes

District-based proect:

Hong Kong Island, Kowloon City and Yau Tsim Mong districts

School-based project:

Lingnan Hang Yee Memorial Secondary School, St. Francis Xavier's School Tsuen Wan, Cumberland Presbyterian Church Yao Dao Secondary School, CUHK FAA Thomas Cheung Secondary School, Cotton Spinners Association Secondary School and Lingnan Secondary School

Project Content

Students will go through the following stages in the project::

 

 

 


Three Key Components

(1) Personal Development Plan

    Participants draw up their Personal Development Plan (PDP) with specific development goals under

    the guidance of social workers and mentors. During the course, children are provided with relevant basic training.

 

(2) Mentorship

     Be the volunteer mentor! Participants will be matched with a mentor to obtain guidance throughout

     the three-year programme. A mentor is expected to assist participants to establish and implement their PDP

     with specific goals and share their personal growth experience.

 

(3) Targeted Savings

     Targeted Savings encourages participants to set a monthly saving target of HK$200 over a two-year period. The participating children can start using their savings in the middle of second year for implementing their PDPs which is limited to their own saving portion.

Target Participants

Children aged between 10 to 16 or currently a Primary 4 to Secondary 4 student;and whose family is fulfilled at least one condition

- earning a household income less than 75% of the median monthly domestic household income;

- receiving financial assistances including: the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance; the Working Family Allowance ;

- full grants from student finance schemes administered by the Student Finance Office.

We welcome applications from those who meet the following criteria:

 

Training Content and Support

Training sessions include the guidance for mentor to establish a trust relationship, effective communication skills, counseling skills, financial management concepts etc.

Outstanding mentor will share their experience and support each other.

Including diversity channel to support mentor, such as Facebook, WhatsApp, mobile phone, and email.

Mentor Award Scheme

Certificate for Outstanding Mentorship

Present to mentors who attended 6 training activities during the first 2 years and met his/ her mentee at least once a month, including interview or phone calls.

Outstanding Mentorship (Gold)

Present to mentors who attended 16 training activities during the first 2 years and met his/ her mentee regularly once a month, including interview or phone calls.

Outstanding Mentorship (Silver)

Present to mentors who attended 14 training activities during the first 2 years and met his/ her mentee at least once a month, including interview or phone calls.

Outstanding Mentorship (Bronze)

Present to mentors who attended 12 training activities during the first 2 years and met his/ her mentee at least once a month, including interview or phone calls.
