Caregiver Support Project 2.0 – Dissemination Project

Introduction

Funded by the Simon K Y Lee Elderly Fund, BOKSS Commuity Support and Care Services for the Elderly has launched the Caregiver Support Project 2.0 in collaboration with Saint Francis University and City University of Hong Kong from December 2023 to November 2025, a 24-month-project will be implemented in Sha Tin, Tai Po, Tsuen Wan, Kwai Tsing and Yau Tsim Mong District. The project adopts a scientific, comprehensive and validated working model of serving caregivers of the elderly with the purposes to strengthen their personal social capital so that they can perform the caregiver roles more effectively as well as release their burden.

Service target

Caregivers aged 21 or above providing unpaid assistance to frail elders aged 60 or above.

Service Contents
1.    Caregiver Support Model
Social worker will provide supporting services like emotional counselling, knowledge and skills of caring for the frail elderly, social connections, linking up community resources, and so on, so as to relieve their burden on taking care of them. These services also help to take advantage of caregivers’ personal strengths to improve their physical and psychological health. Detailed services are as follows:

• Emotional counseling
• Assistance with service applications and referrals
• Social support

2.     Psycho-education Program on Empowerment
Peer groups are led by social workers and experienced carers to work with novice carers through 8 sessions of group activities to enhance the carers' personal competence and long-term well-being.
